Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

GOAL:

It removes excess fat and skin and in most cases restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer

It is a good option if

You are bothered by a large tummy, you have stretch marks, excess skin and abdominal skin laxity. The most common causes of abdominal sagging include:

Aging – Pregnancy – Prior surgery – Weight loss – Significant fluctuations in weight.

Why surgery and not other non-surgical treatments:

A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us thrive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes, skin excess and laxity don’t allow these methods to achieve our goals.

During consultation:

Be prepared to discuss your surgical goals, medical conditions and tobacco use.

I will evaluate your general health status; skin excess, muscle tone and abdominal wall laxity.

I will take measurements and discuss surgical options and likely outcomes.

Prior to surgery:

You will have to get a lab test, stop smoking and avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs.

The procedure:

The options include, general anesthesia or epidural anesthesia with intravenous sedation.

A full tummy tuck requires a horizontally oriented incision in the area between the pubic hairline and navel. Through this incision weakened abdominal muscles are repaired and sutured and excess fat and skin are excised.

Recovery and after surgery:

The result is remarkable immediately after the operation. Within a week you should be standing and confident about your new slimmer profile. You will have to wear a special garment for 3 to 4 weeks. It may take up to 4 weeks to be able to resume exercises and sports.
