Rhinoplasty Surgery

GOAL:
Enhance facial harmony and the proportion of the nose. It can correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose.

It is a good option if:
Facial growth is complete and you are 16 years of age or older + physically healthy + you have a positive outlook and realistic goals.

During consultation:
• Prepare yourself to discuss your surgical goals, your medical conditions, breathing difficulties if any, allergies and previous surgeries.

• I will discuss the options available for your nose reshaping, examine and measure your face, take photographs, recommend a course of treatment and discuss likely outcomes.

Prior to surgery:
You will have to perform a lab test, stop smoking, take certain medications or adjust your current medications and avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs.

The procedure:
Done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.
Performed using a closed (incisions are hidden inside the nose) or open procedure (where an incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils) allowing access to reshape the cartilage and bones. Additional incisions could be placed in the natural creases of the nostrils to alter their size.

Recovery:
Packing will likely be placed inside your nose and a splint placed on the outside to support the new structures during initial healing. Packing is removed few hours after the procedure and the splint is left for one week.

Return to normal activity is expected within one week after the procedure.
Initial swelling subsides within a few weeks but it may take up to a year for the new nasal contour to fully refine.
